Bookends - Sam Balharrie, Hector Rutter - FullHD/1080p
Description
The story follows two lifelong friends, Lou and Ali, who meet three times in one year, during each conversation they realise their undeniable feelings for one another. Bookends, written and directed by Australian filmmaker, Sam Balharrie, showcases a subdued, quiet, yet entirely truthful and engrossing sort of longing. The camerawork is gorgeous, the editing genius. The script was of course limited by its runtime, but it still had a real authenticity in its naturalism, brought to the forefront by both actors but especially Sam. Despite being as fleeting as the love it depicts, the film demonstrates the potential and confidence of the team behind it, such as in its segments of physical theatre. Under lesser hands, this would be awkward, a director attempting and failing at pretentiousness; in here, it is touching at times, emotionally devastating at others. It's just a really great piece of work.
